The bridge-aqueduct on the ravine

The bridge is an imposing structure with six arches, about 30 metres high and 90 metres long.
It was built probably during the second half of the 17th century to allow the crossing of the ancient Crapo, the Gravina stream, and to make it easier to reach the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Stella, a sort of road that joined the city to its natural environment.
The bridge is known as the “bridge-aqueduct.” Its paving is peculiar: it recalls the Roman roads, which is why it is often wrongly referred to as a ‘Roman bridge’.

It is possible to cross it to reach both sides of the ravine completely independently. The lower arches of the bridge can currently be visited every weekend by contacting the city’s tourist office.
