Municipal Library “Georgios Panagopoulos”

The history of the Municipal Library of Aigio begins in 1874, when it was founded by a group of progressive people of the time. In 1914 many fellow citizens of letters met to establish the “Public Library”. The committee undertook the training and operation of the Library Organization but unfortunately this effort did not succeed. In 1932, during the reign of Polychroniadis Polychronis, the Library was founded as an association with a three-member committee, and with many donations from people of letters. The library operated without interruption until 1934 when the building in which it was housed was used for government services. In 1948, with the actions of the then Mayor Georgios Kouvelis, the Municipal Library of F.E.K. 203/48. In 1967-1972 the issue of abolition by the Prefecture was raised due to lack of resources. In 1978 the Municipal Library of Aigio reopened in the neoclassical building of Vas. Konstantinos after renovation with the kind sponsorship of Konstantinos Manos.
