Description

It was founded in 1689 by the then Cardinal Vincenzo Maria Orsini, who wanted to give the city a ‘cultural space’ from which lay and ecclesiastical people could benefit. He thus established the library with its 5670 or so books.
The library takes its name from another important figure, Cardinal Francesco Antonio Finy, who not only enriched the library’s collection with a large number of donations, but also chose the building that we can admire today as its official location in order to make it public.
The façade with the angular solution at the oblique corners, ends with a mixtilinear fastigium closed by the scaffolding of the bells in the clock and its dial depicted during the second half of the 19th century, carries the images of Vittorio Emanuele II and Giueppe Garibaldi.

The Finya Capitular Library stands imposingly in Notar Domenico Square.
You can book your guided tour by calling the Capitolo Cattedrale di Gravina at the following numbers: phone 080.325.12.89 – mobile 350.081.84.62
